Slayers for Hire, super slay bros – Still Brewing

What Do We Know So Far?

Who are behind Slayers for Hire?

Development of Slayers for Hire is being done by Meta Games. This is their first project. The studio was formed after the founder decided to make a game he wanted to play. This was five years ago. Over the next few years, the dream continued and now the team has 17 members. No publisher has been announced as the game is still firmly in the development stage.

What kind of game will it be?

Slayers for Hire is going to be a platform brawler. If you’re not familiar with this genre then take Super Smash Bros…and that’s it, you’ve got it. Rather than Nintendo characters, the roster in Slayers for Hire will be created solely for the game. It’s still too early to know if the game will have a story element. Focus currently is mostly on mechanics and implementing new fighters.

Where will we find it?

At this stage, it seems the game will be set for a PC release. However, platform brawlers fit well on consoles as well. So it’s possible it will make its way over to the console world. But, first things first, they need to fund it for the 1.0 release.

When can we get it?

As per the above point, it’s still undergoing funding. While the game has two playable characters ready. They have six characters planned for release, so they are looking to fund the production of the other four. Look out for their kickstarter in the links at the bottom.

But, there is also good news for people who don’t want to wait. You can also join their Discord server (again link will be below), and play the 2 character alpha right now.

More info required!

Slayers for Hire is a game born of one man’s passion. While he could recognize the passion of other gamers that they dedicate to a single game. He noticed that a lot of developers tend to drop focus on their games to move onto the next project. So he decided to be the change he wanted to see.

Visually the game already looks amazing. Everything from characters to backgrounds looks to be hand-painted. Which is a lot of fun considering one of the two playable characters right now is a painter. Speaking of the playable characters, the other is Slugger who uses a bat as a weapon. The fantastic thing about these characters, and the others they have announced so far. Is that they all have their own unique game mechanic. For instance, the Slugger is able to summon a ball of light and bash it around the arena dealing damage. While, the Painter is able to summon paintings and traces a short line when she moves, which she can use to reverse her trajectory.

As a massive fan of the Platform Brawler genre, I have been let down by some recent non-Nintendo entries. Playing the demo of Slayers for Hire, I have to say it feels very rough right now, but the potential is undeniable.

The developers are also opting for a free release, with purchasable cosmetics. And purchasable or unlockable characters much like another Platform Fighter Brawlhalla.

We here at Sip Read Repeat hope to bring you a full review when we can. Check back later and keep gaming and drinking (coffee).
