Top Free Games for Nintendo Switch

Top Free Games

As the holidays are fast approaching, new Nintendo Switches will begin to be distributed across the globe. That means lots of new Switch owners will be faced with an unfortunately small library right out of the gate. But fear not, my friends! The Switch is home to a slew of free-to-play games to help fill up your dashboard and entertain you. My name is Jason, and here are the top free games for Nintendo Switch (NOTE: Some of these titles require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. I will notify this in each game.).

Super Kirby Clash

Super Kirby Clash Trailer

Super Kirby Clash is a fun free-to-play game starring our favorite pink ball that eats all of his enemies. Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS, Super Kirby Clash is a 1-4 player 2D boss-fighting game. Since it is free-to-play, daily limitations are set, so you cannot play as much as you want. A great feature is that the multiplayer can be played locally with friends or with anyone online! In order to play online, though, you will need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Paladins

Paladins Announcement Trailer

Paladins is a 5 vs 5 online, first-person shooter, similar to that of Overwatch. The free version offers a healthy amount of characters, known as Champions, to play as, and the more you play, the more you will be able to unlock other Champions. If you are a fan of shooters but do not have the money to pay for Overwatch, Paladins is a great option to fill that void. It offers multiple play modes, and each season gives you the ability to unlock special skins, avatars, and mounts the more you play. Like Fortnite, you do not need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play Paladins online.

Nintendo Entertainment System

NES Overview Trailer

The Nintendo Entertainment System is the first not truly free application on this list, but it deserves to be highlighted. As part of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, members are able to access this application and its 60 games, which is growing more and more each month. It is worth noting that NES games on the prior Virtual Console were selling for $5USD each, so this bundle is offering loads of games as part of Nintendo’s cheap, annual online service. You can download this application for free, but it will check your membership status.

Super Nintendo Entertainment System

SNES Overview Trailer

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is exactly in the same boat as its older brother. The SNES app is still in its early stages, so it is not boasting quite the library size as the NES app. However, it is still an amazing list of games, and these games were selling for more than the NES ones on the Virtual Console. As part of the online membership, members get both the NES and SNES apps for free, which is offering nearly 100 games to its members. Like with the NES one, you can download this application for free, but it will check your membership status.
