7 Highlights From Today’s Indie World (Switch)
It’s always great to support indie developers. Thankfully, Nintendo seems to agree, therefore they’ve presented us with an Indie World presentation to give us more information on some great upcoming indies. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights from today’s presentation!
1. Sports Story
Sidebar Games is developing Sports Story, a sequel to Golf Story, but with tennis and baseball, seemingly among other sports. It will be available in mid-2020. Will Sidebar Games be able to “knock it out of the park” like they did with Golf Story? Find out for yourself when it comes out!
Next, Digital Continue is hard at work on Supermash, a game about two siblings that own a game store. In the game, you’re able to make games by combining different genres, and then you’ll be able to share those games you’ve made online. Supermash comes out in May 2020.
3. Sail Forth
Sail Forth is a procedurally generated sailing game. The developers are The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild, and the game will release sometime in 2020.
4. Murder By Numbers
Mediatonic is developing Murder By Numbers, a puzzle mystery game in which you solve pixel puzzles to solve a mysterious murder – you need to clear your name! It seemed reminiscent of Phoenix Wright, and interestingly enough, the composer for Phoenix Wright is part of this game! It comes out in early 2020.
5. Boyfriend Dungeon
Boyfriend Dungeon is a dungeon dating sim by Kitfox Games. It’s a “shack-and-slash” dungeon crawler where you can date your weapons! An extremely intriguing concept coming out sometime in 2020.
*Editor’s note* I actually covered this game in a list of bizarre dating simulators. You can read the whole list here. Self-promotion for the win!
6. The Survivalists
The Survivalists is a procedurally generated island survival simulation game. The game is set in the same universe as The Escapists, by Undefined. Try to survive in 2020!
7. Axiom Verge 2
Clearly a sequel to Axiom Verge, Tom Happ’s four year labor of love will find its way to the Switch sometime in 2020!
In conclusion, we have got a lot to look forward to in 2020 in terms of indie games alone for the Nintendo Switch. I’m personally looking forward to Boyfriend Dungeon, as that’s right up my alley. What are you looking forward to the most from today’s direct?
