What Do We Know So Far?

Who are behind Cover Your Eyes?

Cover Your Eyes is an ambitious project both developed and published by StarSkipp Games. StarSkipp being a solo developer by the name of Gregory Moore. Cover Your Eyes seems to be his first project, or at least his first significant release.

What kind of game will it be?

Cover Your Eyes is called a 16-bit love letter by its creator. Genre-wise it is a survival horror game. You take control of a mother and her two children. Embarking on a harrowing journey to find her husband and their father. The gameplay seems to take a lot of influence from the classic Resident Evil series. However, the retro art style places it closer to The Witch’s House.

Where will we find it?

A very indie title. Cover Your Eyes is set for just a PC release at this stage. Neither console nor Mac and Linux has been announced. However, The Witch’s House which was made in the same engine did eventually make it to both Linux and Mac.

When can we get it?

Cover Your Eyes is scheduled to be released on August 7th, 2020. While there is still quite some time before this date, game-development like any kind of development may incur unforeseen delays. You can add the game to your wishlist now if you like, the steam link will be at the bottom of the page.

More info required!

While the above information where I stated that Chloe (the Mother) was looking for her husband. The reality of the game is far less idyllic than that. As it seems that Chloe, who works a 9 to 5 job to provide for her family finds out that her husband is unfaithful. But, that’s not the end of things by far. As the husband disappears into the darkness the town of Verwood is descended on by supernatural entities.

These hideous monsters would cause anyone to panic, flee and likely die. However, Chloe is not just anyone, she’s a mother. And as a mother, she will do whatever it takes to protect her family. From the information we have so far it looks like combat will be an option. But as in the classic survival horror games such as Silent Hill where resources are scarce, it might be best to just avoid conflict when possible.

Don’t let the retro pixel art-style fool you, Cover Your Eyes will be a dark game. The developer has warned of violence, gore, drug use and even brief nudity in the finished game. While it may not be a game for everyone, fans of the early days of survival horror will find a lot to enjoy.

We here at Sip Read Repeat hope to bring you a full review when we can. Check back later and keep gaming and drinking (coffee).
