Spiritfarer, death’s ferrymaster – Still Brewing
What do we know so far?
Who are behind Spiritfarer?
Spiritfarer is the latest game by the acclaimed Thunder Lotus Games team. The same team that brought you Jotun and Sundered. They will be once again handling both the development and the publishing for this title.
What kind of game will it be?
Spiritfarer is the third game by Thunder Lotus Games. But it seems they aren’t a company to rest on their laurels. Jotun was an exploration/adventure game with a focus on fighting giant bosses. Sundered was an action/platformer or Metroidvania game. Spritfarer however, seems to be letting the action side of things go in favor of a more emotional core. Billed as a cozy management game about death. Spiritfarer is set to be a narrative based experience with exploration and building aspects.
Where will we find it?
Thunder Lotus has opted for a wise release for the game. Not only is it scheduled for all major home consoles. That is to say, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and XboxOne. But, it is also scheduled for Windows PC, Linux and Mac as well. So from the looks of it, if you want to play Spiritfarers, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
When can we get it?
There is currently no ETA beyond 2020 for the release of Spiritfarer. A representative from the Thunder Lotus marketing team claimed that they are “many months away”. So it would be safe to assume the release will probably be in the second half of the year, potentially in the final quarter. Only time will team.
More info required!
Spiritfarer is set to be a completely different genre from the studio’s past work. However, not everything will be changing. While it might be quicker, cheaper and easier to opt for pixel or polygonal art-style, Thunder Lotus has opted to keep their signature hand-drawn art style. But, seeing as they are on their third game already, the team probably has this down to a science by now. And the results speak for themselves. With the art of the previous games being unanimously praised.
As for the gameplay of this new title. You play as Stella the ferrymaster to the dead. Your objective is to explore, find and befriend spirits and ultimately learn to say goodbye to them. From this concept alone it seems the game will be quite affecting already. Along with this core gameplay, the game will also have farming, mining, fishing, harvesting, cooking, and crafting. One of the main features the trailer shows, in terms of crafting, is the ability to upgrade your boat. The trailer also shows a few small bonding moments with spirits. And it shows a ton of personality.
Stella will also be accompanied by Daffodil the cat. And it seems a second player will be able to control Daffodil for a co-op experience.

Coffee of choice: I like the sweeter kinds, mixed with chocolate, coconut, caramel etc. but I won’t turn down a flat white or a straight black either.
