Jack Axe, throw it – Still Brewing
What do we know so far?
Who are behind Jack Axe?
Jack Axe is developed by Keybol Studios. Keybol is a company that started out with browser games has since evolved to desktop, mobile and console development and publishing. Keybol mostly co-develop with other companies and this time it’s Mike Studios for Jack Axe. Publishing for the game will be handled by Another Indie. Much like the also upcoming Elden.
What kind of game will it be?
Jack Axe is set to be an action-platformer. Inspired by games like Celeste (which incidentally topped out Best Platformers of the Decade list). Using Jack’s titular Axe as both a weapon and a mode of transportation. Jack will need to traverse all sorts of daring puzzles and challenges, collecting coins and making insane leaps to be the best.
Where will we find it?
Jack Axe will be available on PC (Steam), you can wishlist it now (link below). It will also be available for Mac users, and for the major consoles (Nintendo Switch, PS4, and XboxOne).
When can we get it?
The wait is almost over, the game is scheduled to be released on April 3rd. Barring any catastrophic setbacks or reveal that it was all an elaborate April Fool’s joke that went the extra level of deception by not even being on April 1st, you’ll be able to check the game out in Early April.
More info required!
Jack Axe is set to be an open-world experience. Which means you’ll be able to explore anywhere you have the skills to get too. It will also have a multiplayer option, which allows for even crazier plays to occur. The game also uses an interesting mix of Nordic and Filipino mythology as well as a strong female character (or characters if you can play multiplayer).
The actual story revealed so far has a God summoning in their champion, however, they become irate when they realise that Jack is a SHE and they were expecting a HE. But that doesn’t get Jack down, she grabs the Axe and goes on the journey because girls are great and that God is kind of a dick. And great is exactly what Jack (and her friends) are, with the ability to jump, double jump, wall jump, aerial dash, and oh yeah throw a magic Axe and then zoom over to it. Jack Axe looks bright and fun, but also frustrating and challenging in equal measure. Feeling sometimes in the trailer like a mix of Super Meat Boy (also on the platforming best of list) and Guacamelee 1/2 (which made the best of Metroidvania’s list).
With such a strong mix of influences but retaining their own feel, Jack Axe is one to watch for fans of tough platformers. Also Jack is a really well designed character who like Juan from Guacamelee might even be worthy of being an indie game mascot contender.
We here at Sip Read Repeat hope to bring you a full review when we can. Check back later and keep gaming and drinking (coffee).

Coffee of choice: I like the sweeter kinds, mixed with chocolate, coconut, caramel etc. but I won’t turn down a flat white or a straight black either.
