Clive ‘N’ Wrench, dynamic duo – Still Brewing
What do we know so far?
Who are behind Clive ‘N’ Wrench?
Clive ‘N’ Wrench is developed by Dinosaur Bytes. It will be their first game on Steam. But lead developer Rob Wass has been the main force behind the game. Working since 2011 in his spare time as a solo-project. And from what I can find out about Dinosaur Bytes it may still be just Rob Wass making his passion project. Numskull Games will be handling the publishing. However, the Steam page for the game still notes that Dinosaur Bytes are self-publishing.
What kind of game will it be?
Clive ‘N’ Wrench will be a classic 3D platformer inspired by the greats. Think games like Jak and Daxter, Spyro the Dragon and Banjo Kazooie. Where games like A Hat in Time and Poi lean more toward Super Mario 64 I get a more Ratchet and Clank or Yooka-Laylee vibe from this game.
Where will we find it?
The game will be launching on PC (Steam) and as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Originally it was planned for the Wii U however with the overwhelming success of the Switch and the comparative ease of porting the developer shifted to the Nintendo Switch. Both a downloadable and physical copy of the game are planned.
When can we get it?
After 9 years of hard work, Clive ‘N’ Wrench is nearing completion. However, it will still be a while before it will be fully ready. Currently, the release is scheduled for Winter 2020. A playable demo was made available in May 2019, however, it has since become unavailable as the development has progressed.

Clive ‘N’ Wrench is Rob Wass’s love-letter to the genre of games he loves. As a fellow lover of the genre that’s an exciting prospect. Fan projects are always somewhat hit and miss though. With some developers wanting to pay homage to their favorite games but lacking the means to do so. Citing either technical, budgetary or even commitment constraints. But from what has been released so far Clive ‘N’ Wrench falls more onto the Ghosts’n DJ’s side of gaming love-letters. It’s probably a coincidence that they both abbreviate and to n.
So far the released promotional material (pictures and videos), shows that a few check boxes have been ticked. The characters in the game are a Rabbit and a Monkey (the monkey is Wrench geddit?). So checks there for both inventive characters and their cute designs. Next up we have levels and the game doesn’t slouch here either. Wild west, Christmas (with dinosaurs naturally), Medieval, Casino Town and a giant room a la Toy Story all make appearances. Then we have the moveset, and the usual suspects are included here, jumps, double jumps, gliding (performed by swinging Wrench around Clive’s head) a very Jak and Daxter spin move and plenty more.
As a fan of the genre, I really need to feel how the game controls to say how good it will be. But as far as the look and the passion on display so far I’m about as excited as I was when Yooka-Laylee was announced.
We here at Sip Read Repeat hope to bring you a full review when we can. Check back later and keep gaming and drinking (coffee).

Coffee of choice: I like the sweeter kinds, mixed with chocolate, coconut, caramel etc. but I won’t turn down a flat white or a straight black either.
