Killer Gin – Indie Game Competition
There are plenty of indie games out there. Our First Sip Reviews are just the tip of the iceberg. But even if you factor in all the Still Brewing games being made that’s still scratching the surface. So with all these games how can an indie developer get the word out about their games. Arranging for press coverage is a solid plan. Creating a community based around your game works too. However, developer The Killer Gin, who is behind the game Killer Gin has gone the extra mile by hosting his own competition.
First of all, what is Killer Gin?
Killer Gin is a JRPG with optional farming and dating mechanics. Even this doesn’t really tell you everything though. The game also has stealth segments, an infinite dungeon to explore (more on that soon), a homestead mode, the ability to marry and raise a family and so much more. It is currently available in Early Access and even has a free demo. And what’s even more impressive is that the game is a solo-project by creator Frederick Miranda (with some commissioned work including a cast of voice actors) as a passion project similar to Clive ‘N’ Wrench and Pumpkin Jack but combining elements of a few genres rather than being a specific love-letter to a certain one.
The game also contains other features such as mini-games, a day/night cycle, real-time weather, and even a good or evil setting similar to Western RPGs such as The Elder Scrolls series. And of course good old fashioned turn-based battles. Overall it’s an ambitious project that still hasn’t been completed yet (hence the Early Access release) and it already has 25+ hours of playtime, not to mention all the wonderful artwork and a crossover with another indie JRPG that’s still in development Star Shift.
Creator Frederick Miranda has been working on the game for over 4 years now. He is also a professor that teaches Math and Computer Sciences. His goals as a teacher are to inspire his students. And his goal with his game is to provide enjoyment to other gamers.
Now, what exactly is the contest or competition being proposed? Well, it has to do with that infinite dungeon I mentioned earlier. The simple goal is to delve as deeply into the dungeon as possible. Are there any other rules? Yes, and the developer has kindly provided a list of FAQs and answers.
