Ever Forward, keep moving – Still Brewing
What do we know so far?
Who are behind Ever Forward?
Ever Forward is both developed and being published by Pathea Games. The studio has a few games under their belt now. Most notably among them is My Time at Portia a sort of Harvest Moon/Rune Factory type game. They also made Planet Explorers an open-world sandbox RPG. And have another game in development at the moment that we may cover soon too.
What kind of game will it be?
Ever Forward is a departure from the action RPG/sandbox/farming type games Pathea Games have become known for. As this new game will be a puzzle adventure similar in tone and style to RIME.
Where will we find it?
The game is set to launch on Steam/Windows PC and the big three consoles. So if you have a Ninendo Switch, Playstation 4 or an Xbox One then you’ll have a chance to play this beautiful puzzle adventure.
When can we get it?
Information here is a little tricky to unearth. Most places show the release being scheduled for May 2020. However, the Steam page for the game lists the release as June 2020. It is of course entirely within the realm of reality that the initial release was postponed. After all the Pathea team is split between the US and China. It also appears that the game has been in development in some form or another since 2016. Ever Forward actually is not listed on Pathea’s website, however, a game called Protoform is and screenshots would lead me to believe they are one and the same. Protoform also lists that it was planned to be released on PC and Switch in 2019 so a pushback from May to June isn’t a huge shock, especially when the game was rebranded in the interim.

One other thing to note about the Protoform/Ever Forward similarities is that Ever Forward appears to be a more polished product. The screenshots from Protoform show a lot of similarities but almost exclusively take place in a fairly monochrome facility setting. However, Ever Forward caught my eye from its lush visuals, especially the colorful gardens. While it’s possible the game was rebranded it’s also possible that Ever Forward is a later iteration of the original idea, rebuilt or built to supplement the original. But as far as I can see Protoform was not released so it is likely that it was expanded into this new game.
The game follows Maya a girl lost somewhere between the realms of imagination and reality. The goal is to solve the puzzles and progress whilst you uncover the secrets of Maya’s past. These elements are very similar to both the aforementioned RIME and DREAMO with the female protagonist and dreamworld feeling a little like Freud Gate one of the games covered in a recent Steam Sale List. However, despite the number of aspects reminiscent of other properties the game feels like it has its own personality and will tell its own story. And I for one am deeply intrigued already. The puzzles showcased in the trailer seem to involve a variety of mechanics.
The Steam page mentions that the game will have mechanics ranging from simple walking, jumping, and climbing to teleportation and gravity control. Even just typing that makes me want to play the game right now. Having been a fan of Pathea Games previous game My Time at Portia I’m quite excited to see what the final product will be.

Coffee of choice: I like the sweeter kinds, mixed with chocolate, coconut, caramel etc. but I won’t turn down a flat white or a straight black either.
