Yaga 1.1 The Bad Fate Update
At the end of last year, we ran a review for Yaga an action-RPG game developed by Breadcrumbs and published by Versus Evil. A few months have passed and now Breadcrumbs have announced a major patch to the game. Yaga 1.1 The Bad Fate Update. Which is available now for Apple Arcade and Epic Games and will be rolled out to Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One later this year. But what does The Bad Fate Update mean for the game?
Yaga 1.1 vs Yaga 1.0
There are a few aspects of the game that have received an overhaul in this new update. The most significant would probably be the difficulty levels. With this new update, they have introduced not one, but two new difficulty settings. “Story Mode” as the name implies is an easier experience so the player can focus more on the story. This is a fantastic addition for more casual players as the Story is a fun mixture of interesting and funny. The team have also gone the opposite way and implemented “Hardcore Mode”. This mode is for anyone who loves a challenge, or perhaps someone who has finished the game on the standard difficulty and wants to test themselves. One of the main features of this difficulty is the addition of Permadeath, a diabolic feature that will have masochistic gamers everywhere getting excited.
But the difficulties aren’t the only changes. The team has also revamped the bad luck status and improved crafting. Which you may remember from the original review were among the sticking points for the game. Bad Luck is now easier to both understand and control. XP gains are improved when Bad Luck is being experienced and witches now have the ability to clear your luck rather than waiting it out as before. While crafting has added the use of runes, new craftable items, and the ability to repair damaged ones (you are a blacksmith after all).
And finally, there have been some general improvements to Yaga 1.1 such as refining the enemy AI. Increasing the speed of the main character so you don’t need to roll as much. Fast travel options between specific places so you don’t have to manually walk back and forth. A new mini-map and breadcrumbs (their word) to find your goal.
The Future of Yaga?
With this new update Breadcrumbs Interactive and Versus Evil have shown that they not only encourage feedback but that they will make changes to improve the experience for the community and make the game as good as it can be. The previous version of the game scored fairly well in our review but with this latest update, it’s better than ever.
