6 Steam Indies on sale this week (Week 25 2020)
It’s finally here, the Steam Game Festival Summer Edition. The main focus is on demos like Gori: Cuddly Carnage and developer live streams/Q and A’s like Oneshark for their upcoming Doors of Insanity. However, with great indie game focus comes great sales. Here are another 6 Steam Indies on sale this week.
Zombie Solitaire 2
To start this week’s 6 Steam Indies on sale. We have Zombie Solitaire both developed and published by rokaplay. As you might imagine this game is a solitaire game themed with zombies. But more than that, it also has match-3 levels. Not to mention a narrative with branching choices, power-ups, and more. Plus the developers claim the game is both GMO and gluten-free (but may contain traces of braaaainz. Naturally, Zombie Solitaire 2 i a sequel to the first Zombie Solitaire. However, it seems the match-3 sections are new to the franchise for this game. Additionally, this game also is split into 3 chapters, all of which are on sale currently. And it seems that chapter 3 adds an almost tower-defense mode to the game (based on the screenshots).
Zombie Solitaire 2 Chapter One is currently 90% off, so are chapters two and three. And even the original Zombie Solitaire shares the 90% off discount. Or you can grab chapters one, two, and three in a bundle for 93% off. All deals are running until June 24th.
Developed and published by Uppercut Games Pty Ltd. Submerged is next up on our list of 6 Steam Indies this week. A curious game, Submerged is a 3D exploration adventure game that is completely combat free. Which is to say, there are no enemies, there is no timer. The story will progress as you explore and scale buildings to locate the supplies you need. This makes the game ideal for a relaxing session of gaming or for younger gamers as there are no penalties for taking your time or making mistakes. Beyond wasting your own time if you can’t work out how to scale a building. But the atmospheric setting, lovely depiction of sea-life and the interesting story revolving around a brother and sister in their attempts to survive in a post-apocalyptic flooded world make up for any shortcomings.
At 90% until June 23rd, if you’re looking for a nice little adventure to get lost in you could do far worse.
The Tower of Worth
Another game on our list of 6 Steam Indies to be self-published by the developer. The Tower of Worth is a roguelike 2D action game made by Nevertheless Studios. There isn’t much information about the game and it is a fairly recent release (May 2019). The game uses an interesting minimal art style almost similar to Limbo but with some occasional splashes of color. It seems like English may not be the developer’s first language with the way everything on the Steam page is written. However, there have been a ton of really great games that suffer from translation issues. And at the end of the day, the game is action-based not a highly narrative experience. The basic concept seems to be to get to the top of the tower, grow and change as you play.
At 90% off until June 24th if it’s worth risking then now would be the best time to try.
In stark contrast to the previous games, Dex is developed by Dreadlocks Ltd. Who also published the game. However, with the assistance of Techland and WhisperGames. Dex is an open-world 2D action game with non-linear gameplay. It combines this with an action-RPG style where you use augments on your character, find items and manage your inventory, and use your hacking skills to break into things. Essentially it seems to be Metroid fused with Deus Ex. And that’s no bad thing really. Overall the game is a fairly well-received cyberpunk title. Well worth a look if any of the above has you intrigued. The game also has a separate soundtrack as paid DLC. But it has both a costume pack and Czech voice acting as free DLC options.
Yet again this is a 90% off game, this one is until June 23rd though.
Our next game is brought to us by Night Node. Night Node are once again self-publishers of the game they have developed. Orbital Gear is a fast-paced 2D action shooter. Gear up your giant robot and leap across planets (or maybe moons) using their gravitational pulls to traverse space so you can shoot at other giant robots. There are twelve weapons overall and you can choose two of them to wage space war. The game is mostly a multiplayer experience but there are single-player trials you can run to hone your skills. A fairly small game (only 500MB storage required), where the developers have focused on refining the gameplay as much as possible. Get yourself a group of friends and this game is a hoot.
At 90% off until June 23rd it might even be a good idea to pick up a few copies for friends.
And the final game in this week’s 6 Steam Indies. Blink is developed and published by nextReality Games. The game is an interesting puzzle platformer hybrid. Essentially the main character can “blink” between worlds, the first is the standard world and the second is an afterimage where you can walk on light. It’s a little hard to explain but the basic gameplay will see you manipulating a light source and then blinking between worlds to get to places. Sort of like the world swap mechanic in Guacamelee, except with the ability to influence where the platforms will form sometimes.
It’s not quite a blink and you’ll miss it deal, but at 90% off until June 23rd it would still be best to get in quickly.
And that wraps up this week. Join us again next week when we unearth 6 Steam Indies on sale that week!
